Project: Monitoring Various Components on a Sailboat
Hello everyone,
I need some advice on the following project:
Objective
I want to set up a monitoring system for various components on my sailboat. Specifically, I need to track two systems:
1. Victron Devices
These include onboard components like the MPPT charge controller and battery monitor. Victron devices can be effectively monitored using Venus OS, which provides a clear overview of the boat’s energy management.
2. "Everything Else"
This includes all sorts of additional data such as temperature readings, GPS information, anchor chain length, speed, drift, and more. Over time, new sensors and features will likely be added as needed.
Current Considerations
To display all relevant information efficiently, I currently assume that I will need two screens:
- Screen 1: Dedicated to displaying Venus OS.
- Screen 2: Running a general dashboard, possibly on Raspbian.
Since Venus OS is its own operating system, I assume that I will need two Raspberry Pis:
- One exclusively running Venus OS in a relatively isolated setup.
- One serving as the general onboard system, handling updates, adding new components, and potentially even having 4G connectivity for remote access. This can also be used for background services / multimedia platform and so on. Focus will the the dashboard functionality.
Questions & Advice Needed
- Do you have recommendations for dashboard software that is highly customizable and suitable for this type of application?
- Is there a way to run both screens from a single Raspberry Pi? Or even display everything on one screen with switchable views?
- Have I overlooked any critical aspects that require further planning?
I would greatly appreciate your tips, tricks, and constructive feedback!
Best regards!
