Apparently a commonly used Phison controller chip fails with the Pi 1 lane PCIe.
The Phison controllers are okay. It the WD/Sandisk controllers that have problems. Blame Geeekworm for spreading that false info. They copied their test data from elsewhere but messed up the meaning when rewriting it. They warn against various WD SSDs which don't work because they've supposedly got Phison controllers but if you look them up, they've got WD/Sandisk controllers.
I'm still waiting for the official NVMe 'HAT' to hit the shelves to verify these rumors related to WD/Sandisk NVMe controllers. Can only repeat my self in saying that all Sandisk/Western Digital NVMe in my possession work flawlessly on my CM4 boards; never ever had any issue with them.
Even the SN350 green - which Pimoroni also 'black listed' works on CM4.

I will buy a Pimoroni bottom adapter as well after the official 'HAT' release so I'm able to crosscheck.

Geekworm is something I'm not interested in.
Maybe an Argon ONE V3 chassis if Im able to get one on sale (as I'm not using 3rd party chassis makes no sense for me to spend money on it for testing only).
The tough thing is even for the exact same NVMe SSD model from some manufacturers, they could have different firmware even with the exact same controller chip. Apparently that's been the cause of some issues with SSD's Pineberry Pi tested :|
